why are my head lights dim ?
on my 1975 gmc truck it has the old style round glass headlights and even when they are on hi beams they seam rather dim, there is no haze or dirt on the lenses, what could it be ? i checked the battery with a digital clamp meter and the battery has 11 volts when the car isnt running but wile the truck is idleing it has 13 volts. could it just be the bulbs ?
i checked the battery with a multimeter.
Those older headlamps just don’t compare to the new ones, but if they are really dim and look yellow you could probably do with some new ones as your battery and alternator sound like they are fine. You may want to take a little time tracing the wires for the headlamps though, as a weak ground could be causing the dimness as well, especially in something that old the ground wire could have corroded or rusted and isn’t getting a pure connection anymore.
