The Pet Company pet store chain?
I went into The Pet Company at the Palisades mall in NY just by chance today, and saw a puppy I, of course, fell in love with. It was a bichon frise- adorable. I am considering buying it within the next few days despite knowing how awful it is to buy from pet stores. Logically, I know this, but the dog was adorable! So I did some research on this chain of pet stores, because the salesgirl claims none of the dogs are from puppy mills, and the store looked clean, the dogs well fed, etc, but appearances don’t mean everything.
Because as cute as it is, I don’t want to encourage the growth of a company that buys from puppy mills. So what I’m wondering is, does anyone have any information about this pet store chain that I should have before buying/ not buying this dog?
There is not such thing as “nicer puppymills”. They are ALL horrible. It doesn’t matter how great they actually treat their dogs, in the end it comes down to the fact that they breed only for money, they add to the overpopulation of animals, an 7-10 MILLION animals are killed every year in shelters because there are too many animals and not enough homes from them.
I would say DON’T buy the puppy! If no one bought from places like these, eventually they would have to stop breeding and selling from them. But if just a few people cave, then they will keep breeding.
Like I Said before, it doesn’t matter how well they treat the dogs when they breed them, it comes down to the fact that the ONLY reason they breed is for money.
True responsible breeders only breed to better the breed of the dog. They don’t do it to make money (most actually lose money), they do it for the animals. This should be the ONLY reason to breed! At least for a while. Until we can get the pet population under control, people need to stop breeding! That means stop buying from people who breed just for money! If you buy this puppy, that means there is one dog in a shelter that could of been adopted and saved by you. By not adopting this dog, that means it is euthanized because no one has room for it.
Everytime a dog is bought from a BYB and a puppymill, a dog in a shelter loses a chance at a home and is euthanizd.
7-10 MILLION a year! I don’t care how good you “claim” the breeders are, NO responsible breeder, breeding show quality dogs from champion parents, would give their puppies up to be sold in pet stores. NO GOOD BREEDER WOULD DO THAT!
Therefor this dog HAS to be from a BYB or a puppy mill.
DO NOT BUY THIS DOG! Go to the animal shelter and adopt! You will find many cute smalle breed dogs. Did you know 20% of dogs in shelters are purebreds? And usually only cost between 30-100$? WAY cheeper then your puppymill pet store dog. Also, it is really easy to find puppies, especially in the spring and summer because it is puppy and kitten season.
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE IN AND BUY THIS PUPPY! It is imperative to the downfall of puppy mills and BYB that NO ONE buys from them! If you give in, you give them funds and money to breed even MORE dogs! I don’t care HOW cute it is, is it REALLY worth the lives of other dogs?
I went to petfinder.com and searched in my area for a bichon frise up for ADOPTION. Look at how many popped up!
